Sky View at La Cigale, Doha

So I’ve tried to write (and rewrite) this review several times, but it just isn’t working out. The problem, I think, is that I’ve been trying to base the entire review around a suicide joke.

Okay, I should probably explain that…

I figured I’d start the review by spending a couple of paragraphs talking up the place, explaining how it was a rooftop bar with great views and how it was a ‘sophisticated’ place to meet friends for a drink. I’d then dovetail into this whole thing about how you could also jump over the railings and kill yourself if you didn’t have friends… Only, you know, I wrote it ‘funny’.

Having gotten the suicide joke out of the way, I’d then end with something like,

“Oh yeah, they have a cover charge on weekends. It’s around 200 QR (USD $70) just to set foot in the place after 10pm. I guess that’s to encourage ‘the right sort of people’. You can avoid that indignity by getting there earlier in the evening. And with both 7 Nightclub and Piano Bar also located at La Cigale, it’s actually the perfect spot to get drunk before you have to face the horrors of Doha’s club scene.”

Obviously this is a terrible premise for a review. So if anyone can write a decent bar review of Sky View please get in contact. Until then…
